I’m making a sleeveless version of the drop shoulder ski sweater, aka a vest. My plan is to knit reverse stockinette for the top section (neck to bottom of arm pits), then switch to stockinette for the remainder. I hope I have enough yarn.
Gauge is 14 stitches per 4”. I cast on 64 stitches for the back, using provisional cast on instead of invisible cast on, which I now realize is not enough. Grrr.
Starting over: casting on 76 stitches, this time using the invisible cast on (which is very easy once you get the idea).
GRRR! My gauge is off, sweater is way too broad, even for this broad. Should have stayed with 64 stitch cast on. Frogged and restarted, but decided to follow the sleeveless sweater pattern instead, using one of my vests to stay on track size-wise.
Jan 14, 2015 - Gauge is still 14 stitches per 4”. Using a store-bought vest as a guide. I’ve reached the bottom of the sleeve holes, ready to add the armpit stitches.
Jan 16 - I sort of lied. The gauge varies from 12 to 14 stitches per 4”. I cast on 14 stitches under each arm, but when attaching the back and front, k2tog on each side. Not too shabby.
Jan 26 - The 2x2 ribbing for the arms and neck is done, but I may redo the bind off - it’s a little tight. Also, while I aimed to duplicate a store-bought vest in size, I matched the outside dimensions, not considering the thickness of the bulky yarn, so the whole thing is a bit snug. We’ll see how it blocks out. Now all that is left is the ribbing at the bottom.
Feb 3 - sewn bind off for ribbing at bottom - much better than the bind offs on neck and arms, so I will redo them.
Feb 7 - redid the arms and necks to use sewn bind off, wove in ends.
2/5/2017 - I frogged this to reuse the yarn because it looks HORRIBLE on me.
