Got some discontinued Summer Tweed on sale and wanted an easy pattern for a summer sweater with longish sleeves (I’ll probably modify to 3/4 length) to throw over a t-shirt or tank. I like the fact that the holes will change the top depending on what colour I wear underneath.
The Summer Tweed is really lovely to work with and knits up very smoothly.
Modifications: I only did the holes every 8 rows instead of the 4 that the pattern called for. This still left plenty of holes. Did 3/4 sleeves as I prefer that length. I used a different wool to seam it as the summer tweed is a bit fragile for sewing up with.
I’m really happy with the result - this will be a lovely layering piece for the summer and it’s fun to change the look with different colours worn underneath.
Several months later: While I love the fit of this top, the gaping holes started to annoy me. They just were too ragged and I didn’t like them anymore. I tried several different options - crocheting them shut, sewing them shut etc, but the result looked ugly. So I ended up just winding some yarn around each hole three times and then weaving the yarn behind to the next hole. I’m very pleased with the result which you can now see in the top photo.
