On the positive side, I absolutely love the wool and would definitely use it again - really nice to work with, lovely stitch definition and a real sheepy smell, in the best possible way.
BUT, I am so disappointed with the finished project (and this may completely come down to my knitting skills and not the pattern). It is far, far, far too big for me even though I did get gauge and knitted the smallest size. I know it’s supposed to be loose, but the v of the front goes down to my navel or if I pull it back, the weight of the back also creates a huge gap behind the neck. Perhaps I picked the wrong pattern for my body shape (although it’s similar to the model).
I suppose the good news is that I did enjoy the process of knitting it - it was challenging and interesting; I just wish I could wear it. May have to look out for someone to gift this to and search out another pattern which has a similar type of cable. If I were to do it again, I’d add another repeat to the front.
EDITED to add - I put it into the dryer (yes, I know) on a wool setting and it shrunk a little bit but still kept the cable definition. It’s still too big - if you look at the photo of the back, you can see how much material there is - but it is manageable. So I’m about 75% happy with it now.
One hint for those knitting this - pay attention when you get to the sleeves. If you follow the pattern as written, with the sleeve decreases, the double moss stitch pattern goes wonky, so you have to adjust. I made a few mistakes and a few rows are moss stitch, not double, but it doesn’t show up too much.
