UPDATE: The children LOVED getting the monsters!!
FINAL MONSTER COUNT: 83
I am making & collecting hand knit/crochet monsters to donate to Hope Gardens Family Center (homeless shelter for women & children). Last year each child at the shelter received a handmade monster as a gift for the holidays. Details here..
The project was very successful, the kids loved receiving the monsters. I am doing the project again this year.
The Hope Gardens shelter houses abused women & their children. There are approx 49 children there now, but numbers flux monthly. I will not know how many children are there until the day I deliver, so I always try to take more than I need, so no child goes without.
If you could help out by knitting or crocheting a monster & have it to me by November 16, 2012, they will be delivered to the kids in early Dec.
I will accept all types of monsters as long as they are kid friendly & can be used by the kids for bedtime snuggling. They can be any type of yarn as long as they are soft enough to snuggle with at bedtime without being scratchy or itchy. No buttons or other attachments that might pose a choking hazard to small children. (Safety eyes are OK for the older children.) Monsters should also be machine washable, as a well loved monster will get a bit dirty & need many baths.
I have also designed my own knitted monsters that you can download for free: Otto and Pockets & Baby.
A great pattern for sewn monsters is McCall’s Crafts M5826
If you would like to help out & donate, please PM me & I will give you my address, so you can send your monster donation.
Thank you
Bless
