Notes

See more detailed tips on my Baby Blue monkey project.

Baby Ull held double for face, so the yardage based on the weight is twice the yardage if it were worsted weight yarn. The skein of Juniper Moon is a lovely fine wool bought at their sheep shearing and picnic in the Hudson River Valley a few years ago. Required about 62 g of the purple yarn, but not sure of yardage. Was half the skein, which started at about 124 g

Provisional cast-on. Removed waste yarn and drew stitches tight using the yarn end.

12 mm safety eyes from AC Moore. Place safety eyes just after the second main color row that goes all the way around, before narrowing the neck. Use a spare needle to make a wider hole through a stitch or between stitches and push each stem in without putting the back on. Once on, the backs are not removable, so judge the symmetry and placement and compare to other people’s monkeys before snapping the backs on. Bottom picture.

Magnets in hands and feet, not sure how functional they will be through the heavy yarn. The tiniest Neodymium ones from MicroCenter were not strong enough, so went up one size. In the end, the magnets are not really strong enough through the two layers. The hands stick to each other a little, though.

The smile on my mini Jacobus was a bit snaggle-toothed because of the increases on the next row. So this time, on the first increase row after the smile, I made a yarn over and worked it twisted on the following row. Looks much better.

Increases in center front and center back should be done symmetrically (next time!).

Tutu is 5 layers of tulle and 1 of the polka dotted netting. Quality befitting the Bolshoi. Waist is 1.5 inch satin ribbon folded in half. Key hole on back was meant to go around the tail, but it didn’t look good that way.

Crown is crocheted - a very simple affair I made up looking at a few pictures. Try on after the first round and resize if necessary.

I hope the recipient toddler is not too tough on this monkey!
