even since i made that cute inclinations cowl, i have been DEEPLY DESIROUS of a fisherman’s rib sweater to snuggle myself into. and i know making a sweater on tiny needles in a fabric that grows incredibly slowly is KIND OF a bad idea?? and and and and i don’t think i can stop myself. i have these neons kicking around from a series of sort of failed projects, and i think this is what they want to be. i’ma actually swatch bc i want to see how the stripes look. WE’LL SEE!!
i already nixed the teal and MAYBE the red. picked out two new coral/pinks. keeping the MC and the green. prefer the fabric on 2.5 to 3mm needles, compromising on 2.75 for slightly more squish and slightly less insanity??

i’m VERY PLEASED with the fabric, my colour choices, and my call to increase the frequency of the stripes, even though these choices meant i had to make my own yoke chart. three CCs, and stripes on rows 7 and 8 rather than 11 and 12. intending to use the CCs for the hem, collar/buttonband, and sleeve cuffs. possibly just one, possibly a mix of the three?

have i had to do some VERY TEDIOUS and complex unpicking? YES. do i still love this project with my whole heart? ALSO YES

i split for the sleeves this weekend and felt TRIUMPHANT!

i was knitting this VERY monogamously and then i needed a break for something more quickly progressing, so it’s on ice for a hot minute. but i want to get back to it soon!!

i think i want the body to be 14-15” from the armpit, for a mid-hip cardigan. just a few more stripes!!

i considered doing the tubular BO but i just CAAAAAANT. so, i think this might be the right substitution?

i misunderstood the video and the results were looking a bit wonky, so i found some clearer instructions to follow and the italian invisible bind off is working out well

i could NOT imagine trying to unpick the couple inches of my wonky BO… so im just leaving it?? it will probably bother me a little. OH WELL

skipping ahead to the buttonband, which i’m doing in the neon coral CC. hope i did the picking up ok, i’m definitely not doing it over again!! added two extra buttonholes bc of added length (kept spacing as written).

all the tubular/grafted bind off tutorials show a piece of fabric like, 3 inches wide. they do NOT tell you how to manage a tail of like, SEVERAL METERS when you’re binding off a buttonband/collar situation for a full length sweater. it’s a bit of a bear.

i decided i would rather use a double decrease on the sleeves to keep the rib pattern coherent and not to have decreases on either side of the EOR butting up against each other. so planning to inset them by one knit column on either side of the EOR, and cut the frequency in half, so about every inch, which will be in the MC section of every other stripe.

i abandoned this for a very long time, and when i returned i was DAUNTED by the slowness of fisherman’s rib, in the round, on magic loop. i spent a couple of days considering frogging the entire thing, and then got back into the rhythm of it, and am now past the elbow on the first sleeve, and finishing seems possible (though still very very far away).

sleeve number one is DONE!!! i can see the finish line. i used a french braid to take care of the ends for the body and the first sleeve. im gonna see how it blocks? if i need to i can undo the braid and weave the ends, but this seemed like an elegant solution.

the second sleeve is INTERMINABLE

i am so close to the finish line and i can’t wait. i also chose buttons but have to go pick them up from the faraway knitting store.

if we count the time this will take to dry, it’s basically a sweater that took A YEAR and i think im gonna love it and wear it all the time??? we’ll see how she looks after a bath, but i am quite pleased. a year isnt actually THAT long but i did knit the entire body in the first 3 months, and then the sleeves took THREE TIMES AS LONG.

i love it and i wear it all the time. also, i think braiding the ends kept the sleeves from stretching out long (a common complaint from other knitters).
