I have worn this sweater constantly since knitting it. Warm, light, and looks great. Note the “progress pictures” taken at Rhinebeck in a secret place behind the hotel. Maggy had hers finished, but I was a slacker.

This Erin yarn is my favorite for winter wear. Lightweight (wollen spun) and warm, without itch. Imperial Yarn still makes this yarn, but these particular colourways were dyed by Madelinetosh (this dyeing collaboration is now discontinued).

My gauge knitting Erin is 16 stitches and 24 rows to 4 inches in stockinette, blocked, on size 4.5 mm needle. The pattern gauge here is 18 stitches, so I’ll do size M, which will give me some ease.

Notes/Mods:

• I cast on for L, using a German Twisted cast-on, as I don’t want the neckline too tight.
• 8 rows rib (not 10) then switch to M during first increase
• 4 additional short rows to drop the front further
• no short rows after the last pattern
• hem has 8 rows to match sleeves and neck.
• didn’t do patch pockets. Did the kind where you knit in a strand of waste yarn then later take it out to knit the rib and pocket liners. 20 stitches wide, not 26.

Sleeve- 54 stitches. Pick up 10 then decrease 1 on each side row 1. Stranding at cuff is 2x2 slanting for 4 rows. 2 MC rows then rib for 8 rows on smaller needles.
