Notes

Annamaria’s patterns are always so well written - a joy to knit.

My mom is delighted with this. Picked the black buttons - a good choice.

My brain wants to read this as Constant CRAving (the k.d. lang song playing in my head doesn’t help with this), instead of Constant CARving - although the cables do remind me of the tracks left by a snowboarder carving her way down the mountainside.

Notes:

  • only 3 (vs 5 ) waist decreases, as my mom doesn’t have the waist she used to have
  • 5 hip increases to end with 198 stitches for ribbing
  • make longer by 1 repeat, so 8 buttons
  • sleeves are M2 so not so snug. I know my mom will wear a sleeved top underneath
  • neckband 2 rows less, as I like the look of a smaller neckband.

Sleeve
112 grams to start
- I did the pattern sleeve cap, then ripped out and did regular short rows, as this yarn doesn’t have enough fuzz to gloss over the bumps and lines that the pattern technique leaves. I used this same technique for my Springfield, and it worked great there, as the pattern helped disguise the seam. Here, it just didn’t work with the yarn.

So - I did a short-row sleeve. Starting at mid-armpit, pick up 3/4 plus bottom 10 with smaller needle. 89 stitches. Switch to 4.5 mm needle and decrease on stitch 4/5 then k2, k2tog until 68. Start short rows, decreasing at 4/5 at start, then remember to do it during the short rows when you get there. Knit 44, w&t, purl 22, w&t, knit to wrap, knit it, k1, then w&t. Purl to wrap, purl it, then p 1 then w&t. I did every second stitch until I had 7 left on each side, then switched to w&t on the next stitch, without an intervening plain stitch. When 3 stitches left, knit to end of round. Round 1 has the pick-up of wrap. At the end of round 1/beginning round 2 decrease 2 per regular decrease row. Decrease 2 on round 8 to end up with 61 (somehow I lost a stitch). Then decrease every 10th round per pattern, then every 8th round until 43 stitches. Increase to 44 for rib.

Buttonbands - picked up 123, as 16 row repeat between buttonholes, so 8 instead of 7 here.
- ran out of yarn with most of 2 buttonbands and neckband to do. Had to break into 7th skein.

Pattern Gauge
18 sts and 25 rows = 10x10 cm/4”x4” in Stockinette Stitch with larger needle after blocking.
