Notes

waiting for a less-goofy modeled photo!

After I test-knit this sweater, my DD was looking through the other projects and spied this beauty. Had to knit it.

Mods:

  • knitting in sport, not fingering
  • add bust darts (see below)
  • cast on 6 stitches at the underarm to help increase the body size for bust.
  • start waist decreases at 4.5 inches below bust. Did a couple of back decreases prior to side decreases.
  • increased for hip 3 x at back and sides, and then another 3 x at just sides.

Sleeves: 82 stitches to start. 20 rows, decrease, then every 10 4 times to 72 stitches, then every 8 to 56. 10 rows then start garter ribbing. These are wide at the top. Fewer next time.

Originally this was too big - ripped back to end up with 118 for back, 72 for sleeve (3 fewer increases) and same 33 for front. After sleeve separation, 124 for back, increase 3 x to 40 for fronts (total of 204, which is between XL and XXL) and 74 for sleeves.

Start bust darts around 3.25 inches from armhole.
Bust dart calculation: 6 inches difference upper to full bust, so need to add 4 inches of depth, allowing 2 inches for ease (according to Ysolda Teague’s Little Red in the City book). 18 short rows - 9 turns, starting with first turn (German short rows) on stitch 29. Note - the turns are a little close - would have been better to have a stitch in between.

Note about yarn: Wound up the outside of my Kauni to get to the red. The Kauni has a beautiful long colour change that is seamless between colours, but it is wool, and itchy and has lots of vm. The Miss Babs is soft and beautiful, but alternating without fail every 2 rows, especially on the sleeves, was a PITA. 2 of my skeins were black-purple and 2 were black-blue, so I had to alternate (bought these at the end-of-year sale so I’m not complaining - well, just a little).

Fall KAL Joji. Cast on Sept. 7 #300 in the list. Stopped working on this - irritated by the recipient, not the pattern. Back knitting, as I’m feeling more charitable and this will be a Christmas gift.

Pattern Gauge:
Stockinette stitch: 22 st and 32 rows to 4 inches on US 4 (3.5mm)
needles, after blocking.

Measurements:
Waist 39
Upper Bust 43
Full Bust 49
Armpit to full bust 4 inches
Armpit to waist 9-10 inches
