My gauge was off from the pattern gauge and I didn’t want to knit on tiny needles, so I used a 3.5 MM needle (size 4 US) for the garter top in the 38 size and kept the same needle with only 5 repeats of the lace pattern for the bottom. Fits great, and I usually wear it alone or with a tank, instead of as a
vest over a sleeved shirt.

Notes:
-
I started with right back, then left, then the left front then the right front so that I don’t have yarn attached to one section while I am working on another. I used 1 set of needles and 1 ball of yarn for this first part, and just kept the finished bits hanging off my circular until they could all be joined.
-
I also picked up stitches from the back shoulders to knit the fronts. I didn’t do a provisional cast-on, as I like the structure of the cast-on row. Just simpler than seaming after the fact for me.
-
238 stitches for 5 lace repeats. 120 for front and 118 for back. Start row 1 stitch 10, to make the lace centered over the front V.
-
decided to knit the garter over my bust (personal preference). 1 skein for garter, the other is for the lace and bindings.
-
30 grams left after 3 repeats of lace. Enough to do icords, 6 rows garter hem and bind off.
-
I could only do 3.5 repeats of the lace, due to running out of yarn. It would have looked better with another half or whole repeat - my fault for not getting more yarn!
