Named after Buddhist prayer beads, the ridges feel like a string of little beads.
Third time is the charm, apparently. I used 4 mm needles with the worsted Poseidon. Adding 1 more buttons, and 6 rows below waist shaping and 6 above. I intended to add 6 after armhole split but my armhole seems to be very low, so I cut off 6 rows. 7 buttons total.
- 3 more armhole decreases, as I want this vest to be narrower in the shoulders. Ended with 18 stitches instead of 21.
- did the armhole and front edges as follows: picked up stitches, 3 purl rows, bind off purl-wise with Jenny’s Super Stretchy Bind-Off. The edge rolls inward without having to attach it.
- followed Serializer’s idea for the bottom short-rows.
Second attempt with the BFL non-superwash in Poseidon. I swatched on 4 mm needles, and the fabric is nice and sturdy, but the gauge is off, so knitting with 4.5 mm needles per the pattern. This is also Deepish Stash yarn, but I had 1200 yards which was a sweater quantity, so I hated to use this for a vest and have a couple of leftover skeins. It does make a lovely coloured vest!
First attempt with the Kathmandu - This is Deep Stash yarn. I was afraid cables would get lost in the tweed so I picked this rib vest instead. Apparently the yarn expands, so swatching (!) with 4.0 mm needles to see what the fabric is like, vs. 4.5 from the pattern. Unblocked, I get 17 st. to 4 inches, which is great, to give me a larger vest. Blocked - 16 st. to 4 inches which is too large. Started knitting on smaller 4 mm needles, and cast on for 3rd size (39 inches). Frogged when I measured it to be 48 inches, without the front button band!
