For my 2015 motorcycle trip to Maine I didn’t pack yarn. This unnerved my companions who are used to seeing me knitting at night. I bought the yarn at the Swan’s Island store on the Atlantic Coast Highway, 3 miles from where we were staying on the coast. I rode south and picked up needles from a store in Rockland, Maine. What else could I knit but this tunic?
I’m actually following the pattern and knitting in pieces, bottom up, as a form of self-discipline, as my first inclination was to knit top-down in the round. If I knit this again, I would knit top-down in the round, or bottom-up in the round. The tank is so light I think I could do without the side seams.
The leafy lace pattern is very cute but the lack of chart was driving me a bit crazy. I emailed the designer and she kindly sent me a chart for the lace panel.
After 20 rows of stockinette, start waist shaping (corresponds to start of 2nd repeat of pattern for the front).
-did decreases 1 stitch in (ssk and k2tog).
- 24 rows past the last increase start armhole.
-4 repeats then split for straps. 24 rows.
- 8.5 inches for armhole instead of 9.
- put shoulder yarn on holders for 3-needle bind-off.
Notes on the Yarn:
- naturally dyed including indigo, as evidenced by the stained fingers. Beautiful colourway.
- when I soaked this, there was no dye in the water, until I squeezed, when the blue came out. Suggest pre-washing if using this with another colour.
46 grams leftover.
Unblocked: 17.5 from underarm, 24 total length, 33 width.
Afte blocking I gained 1/2 inch at the armhole (7) and 4 inches in width (37). The lace is very stretchy.
Project Gauge: in St st, 22 sts and 33 rows = 4”/10cm
