My daughter-in-law asked me to make a blanket for my granddaughter to use at daycare. This is a blanket that will be on the floor, and washed weekly. Buying pure 100% acrylic is against my religion, but I did it anyway. This is supposed to be pill-resistant. We shall see!
Moderne baby blanket with 3 colours - Baby Pink, Snow White and Aubergine.
- Added Noelle’s name in one of the blocks. Knit it in, with a couple of stockinette rows above and below. Should have just started after the garter, as my stockinette gauge is taller than the squooshy garter, and this makes a slight wave. Used the alphabet chart, but deleted a row to have 7 stitches high.
- using larger needle so casting on 40 stitches to start instead of 42 and will wing it with the # of rows knit for the various blocks to end up with size required. Used a multiple of 15 ridges, instead of 18. 15, 30, and 45 for the bottom.
- had total 189 grams left from the original 6 skeins - less than 1 skein for each colour.
Yarn Gauge: 18s by 24 rows = 4” (10cm) square with US 8 (5 mm) in stockinette
Pattern Gauge - 21 x 42 = 4 inches in garter on size 4 mm needle.
My gauge seems to be about 16 st/4 inches in garter with 5 mm needles.
If I knit this again, with the correct number of colours, I will follow this project here and add a border stripe, which looks great.
Follow the colour plan of this project here, as the original has 4 colours and I only have 3.

Note on the Yarn - another knitting friend recommended this brand when required to knit with acrylic. The yarn is soft, but it sheds. The worst part is the put-up. Both ends are inside the yarn, and pulling one ends up tangling with the other. This happened on every skein. I was constantly having to stop and untangle.
