I have no idea why my FO pictures look blue-ish - morning light? my gray under-tank? who knows!
I’m pleased with the end result. I have a wearable tee and a lot of knowledge regarding this particular linen yarn.
My yarn is listed as Aran-weight, so I’m going down a needle size to 3.5 mm and making a smaller size. It’s hard to tell from a swatch how this yarn will work for a garment, so this tee is kind of a large swatch to see how this linen behaves.
Mods:
- make lace repeat longer (5 repeats vs. 4), so neckline isn’t so wide. Pick up 44 stitches on panels and fewer stitches for back (28 vs.36)
- for fronts, knit fewer rows before joining fronts to bring the neckline up.
- kept decreasing after joining fronts and backs until ended up with 84 front and 82 back stitches, plus the lace panels (17 stitches each) = 200 st.
- 4 waist decreases instead of 3, then 2 pattern repeats before the 4 increases.
- more garter rows for hem and armholes, and neck, plus fewer stitches for neck picked up - 122.
9 grams left.
Notes on this Yarn:
I was anxious at how large this was looking, so I soaked and dried this when I was a couple of inches down from the body joining. My gauge unblocked is 24 stitches to 6 inches, or about 16 to 4 inches. Blocked, I am getting about 28 stitches to 6 inches, and about 19 stitches to 4 inches in width. You can see the obvious difference in the bottom picture.
Finished and unblocked - 26 inches from inside top of shoulder to bottom hem. 23 inches across. After dryer, 24.5 inches in length and 21 inches across. When I re-soaked and let air-dry it was 22 inches across and same length 24.5 inches.
- this yarn has a strong bias. Re-blocking and letting air dry helped the bias, but it is wider this way.
- and, as everyone has commented, it sheds like crazy when knitting it.
- Also - Arctic White is not that white. Cream, as seen by the picture against my white kitchen cabinet in natural light.
This is a fabulous join for linen:
