Blocks will be 9 stitches wide x 10 rows tall.
I used a coupon on every single item; I had to make several trips. I saved at least 50% on the total cost. My total cost after coupons was $49.37 before tax.
{I initially bought 18 skeins.}
I will be doing this the same way as I made the last 8-bit blanket, but with a little tweaking.
I’m going to stick with the same brand of yarn in order for it to remain consistent.
The finished size will be 28 blocks wide by 32 blocks tall.
I switch colors in the middle of each SC so that the lines are clean. Here is a video I made showing what I mean:

I’m 25% done. Because there are more blocks per section, I have more strands to deal with; it makes it a little more challenging (trying to keep all the strands untangled and little toddler hands off of them), but still fun!

I finished section 16 of 30 tonight. I took about two weeks of a break (went on vacation).

Just finished section 20 of 30. I think I’m going to run out of black before I’m finished.

Finishing 23 of 30 tonight.

Finishing the final section tonight. However, because it is still wider than it is tall, I’m thinking of adding a section to the top and bottom to add vertical length. These sections would be 10 rows like all the other sections, and they would be entirely grey. This will be before adding the border.

I’m adding a section to the top and bottom. So, to correct my sizing posted at the beginning, there will be 28 blocks wide and 32 blocks tall.

For the border, I did one row of “SC, CH” in grey, then one in red, then one in blue, and then a row of “RSC, CH” in grey to finish it off.
