I had a special request from a student of mine to help her and a friend get started on this project. I bought the pattern, found the yarns in my stash, and cast on. It is an oddly addicting project, though quite easy and will be good for traveling.

Before ‘class’, I wrote up my own notes for my students on how I decided it best to ‘trap’ the long float between color wedges:

My only suggestions are for ‘trapping’ Yarn B two places behind the garter ridges in color A. They are done in the same way that I ‘trap’ a long float when working in stranded Fair Isle.

These occur only in Rows 9 and 13 of the pattern, as follows.

Row 9 (RS): Using color A, k12. Insert right needle tip into next stitch as if to knit, lay yarn B over the top of right needle to ‘trap’ it, then complete the knit stitch. K (knitting wraps together with wrapped stitches) until one st remains, sl1 wyif.

Row 13(RS): K12. Insert right needle tip into the wrap and next stitch as if to knit, lay yarn B over the top of right needle to ‘trap’ it, then complete the knit stitch. K until one st remains, sl1 wyif.
