Shuttle & 1.25mm / 11 crochet hook
I have finished my card, and wanted to share how I did it to help you all with your future projects. I ironed my heart from the backside only, on a thick folded towel, using spray starch. When dry, I put it on the paper it was to go on, and decided the best way to sew it down was to first put a hole with the needle on the FRONT, going in under the chain in the middle. Then I sewed UP thru that, and went DOWN, close to the chain in the middle. I checked it every chain for most of the first half, to make sure it wasn’t moving. After doing the bottom, I only checked every other one, as it was not moving much. This was much better than sewing as you go, and worrying about where the needle would come up, and having to re-poke it, leaving holes showing. I actually started in the center at the top, where the heart comes together, and tied a knot on the other side, then tied to the same thread on finishing. Don’t use too little thread or you’ll have to add another, and keep the thread tight around. Next I used E6000 spray adhesive from the scrapbooking department and held my breath when I sprayed lightly, placing my pieces of paper face down on a newspaper. It did make the card roll as it dried, but I was able to roll it back the other way again. I did not apply the piece with my heart, until after writing the inside card, incase I messed it up and had to start a new card. So for the piece of paper that my heart was sewn to, I decided to use the roll on crafter’s tape. I did try these and several others I bought today, to see how they all worked. I’ll say this tape started out gloopy and I didn’t think it would be good, but after several times, it became a nice flat streak of adhesive, that I put around the edges of the paper with the heart sewn on. I cut a piece of wax paper to cover over the card in the envelope, so the tatting wouldn’t drag as it went in and out of the envelope. Small little snips cut it much straighter, than trying to cut in a long cut. I left an inch or so at the bottom, to fold over the edge. I’ve tried to take pics of all, to show how I did it.
