30 YEAR PROJECT DONE!

It’s done… I can’t tell you the joy I feel to look at it. I know, someone will think, big deal, it’s a doily. But if you’ve never lost the ability to do the things you love, simple things, things for pleasure, you don’t know what it’s like to miss them, and watch the days pass, unable to enjoy the simplest pleasures you once knew, day after day… month after month… year after year.

This year has been my rebirth. 30 years ago I lost my health and the ability to do anything I enjoyed, or basically, anything at all. But this year, I’ve been blessed and at first I thought I’d just start cleaning and trying to make this place the way it should be. But, no one should put their life off, too risky, you don’t know what the future holds. So, I decided I would reclaim my life - all of it, -the work, the hobbies, all at once. That’s what real life is, a balance of all the parts, and I don’t want to miss anymore.

I started with knitting in Dec 2005, and one by one, I will take each part I lost and weave it back into ME again! So, as I look at this finished item, I see myself as a young mother working on it late into the night, the years all rush thru my head, pictures of my longing to be ‘me’ again, but so sick… not possible. Being in a state of ‘waiting’ to get better, and watching the years of my life go down the drain 1 at a time, as I got older and older. And now…. after all that time, the miracle has happened! I’m rising like a phoenix from my ashes - WOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!! This finished project is the proof of it, I did it, I actually did it!!! Only need to wash it, block, spray lightly with starch. Did I mention that as I got near the end, my thread was showing the cardboard and I had good reason to believe I might run out. Now that would have hurt, this project is more than any old UFO (unfinished object)… it has a deeper significance to me. The thread is white, but old, and the new white looks very different. If I ran out, I probably wouldn’t be able to match the 30 year old thread and I don’t know how I would have finished! But, I kept going, and so did the thread! I put it on the back of the couch for the pic.

I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, I can only thank God for the joy He’s blessed me with over the last year. Make up your minds to enjoy your lives friends, all your lives, -the work, the responsibility, the simple pleasures, the people that enrich it. Don’t put any of it off, live it all at once and never give up, you never know when you might succeed! :)

George Eliot (1819-1880):

“It’s never too late to be who you might have been”.
