US #7 hook.
I’m sure this would look best in white, but having white tables, it won’t work for me. Unfinished pic shows 20 rnds completed, -there are 21 rnds + edging. I went ahead a put this pic, to encourage me to FINISH it! Of course, there is still the blocking, which could be a deal breaker! The pattern called for #20 thread, and I used #10… I hope my thread is not too heavy to perform the high waves that are so beautiful around the outer rnds.
My Notes:
On the 14th rnd, I didn’t come out even, but I don’t think it makes any difference, and just put in an extra st, as leaving out a stitch left to big a last open square. Don’t know if it was my error, but I couldn’t see anything wrong, and I don’t think it matters one bit.
End of rnd 15: I realized they didn’t tell how to get up to the next rnd, so I did 3 slp st into the upcoming loop, which brought me to the top of it, and did a sc to start the sequences.
IMPORTANT!:
15th Rnd: Ch 10, s c in mesh, ch 10, s c in same mesh, * ch 10, s c in next mesh, ch 10, s c in same mesh, repeat from * all around. Work 6 more rows of 10 ch loops.
THIS IS NOT 6 _MORE_ ROWS OF THE SAME PATTERN AS ROW 15! That would double the number of mesh every round! (ask me how I know!) This is meant to be:
slp st to top of loop, (ch 10, sc in next loop), repeat around x6
EDGING: written as 2dc, picot (in top of that 2nd dc), 2 dc. This causes the picot to be not in the middle, so I made 3dc, with the picot on top of the 3rd one, then 2 more dc - now the picot is centered in the middle dc.
When I picked this UFO up, it only had 2 rnds & the edging to go. I wondered why I would have left it with such simple stitches and so close to finishing. So I did the rnds 20 & 21 and started the edging. I didn’t like how the picots were having color changes from the variated thread show up in them. For that reason, I went to the light to study it harder, and much to my dismay, I saw that I had a dye lot problem! I had completely forgotten that I had run out of thread and started a new ball on 20 - and that is probably why I stopped, I saw it didn’t match and didn’t know what to do about it. The green was WAY off, not dull avocado, but shiny grassy green. I ripped out the last 2 rnds again, and realize I have to go ahead to the edging rnd. I was able to find a pink that looks very much like the pink in the variegated, so it will be done, without rnds 20 & 21. I do not know that the called for thread would have run out, remember I used size 10, which has different yardage and uses up at a different rate with size 10 hook. It actually called for 20 thread and 10 hook. I imagine you’d also have a more airy ruffle if the thread was lighter.
There’s also a picture of me trying the green I found & the pink, to see which looked best as the picot edging.
SO! The doily I started on April 18, 2012, is now finished (mius rnds 20 & 21) on Dec 2, 2015!!!
