I used size 7 hook, size 10 thread in knit-cro-sheen metallic in white with silver sparkle and a spring green with dark green sparkle. There is absolutely no way you can combine the colors to come off bad, but my particular intent was to highlight a special part of the pattern, so often when I tried to add green back in, it took too much attention off the highlight area. I finally did find a spot that works, and also helped with the interpretation of the pattern as I saw it. First, my main goal was to show a snowy center, a line of evergreen trees, and a snowy area behind them. Then the frond edges would be the bare limbs from autumns missing leaves, that catch the first snow and turn all silvery, the ground under them still shows some grass, as the limbs caught most of the snow!

The first pic is more like the doily colors, but the second pic, taken without flash, gives more an idea of how sparkly the white and green is, still not as sparkly as in person.
