Notes

Using the dark and light blue held together to start, when it is time to blend in Life on Mars? I will drop the dark blue. Excited to knit this top but I feel like the sizing info is confusing. Went with size 5 and hope it won’t be too big. So far it looks like my gauge is smaller than is called for so we’ll see what happens!

Soooo…this feels way too big when I put it on. Considering it only took 4 days to make I am just thinking of this first attempt as a swatch. Unfortunately the pattern does not give much info as to how the top fits the designer. I think if it said “sample is shown in size X on a model with bust Z” it would make it a lot easier to choose a size. I took lots of notes on the finished tank so that I can decide what to do next time around.

My bust is 39”
My gauge (pre blocked) is 26 sts and 29 rows per 4 inches.
I knit a size 5 which got me dimensions between size 3 and 4.
My first attempt was 27” at waist and 32.5” at bust…that’s 6.5 inches of negative ease and it still felt big. It also had a top and back neck width of 11.5”. I had a friend try it on and I felt the bust fit her much better…her bust is 44”. I also think the straps were knit too long, I knit mine 8.5”.

So, second attempt…what shall I do???

I think I am going to knit size 3, this should give me a whopping 12 to 13 inches of negative ease. Sounds crazy but I’m going to go for it. What’s the worst that could happen?

Oh…modifications I made the first time around that I will be repeating…

Tubular cast on
M1L and M1R increases
Knit stitches between the increases (pattern has them right next to each other which just felt wrong?)
Did not bind off front and back…did Icord bind off

06/29/2018

I stopped about an inch shorter than the pattern indicated before doing the increases since I am so short myself. When it came time to do the bust increases I moved my BOR marker one stitch so that I had a knit, purl, and then 2x1 rib. Moving forward I knit one, M1L, knit to one st before next marker, M1R, knit. I felt this kept the side looking neat. Increased bust to 188 (stitch count in pattern is off, says to go to 186) before separating the front and back. Decreased front to 66 (again, pattern stitch count is off) as written in pattern. Would like front to be narrower so I will now begin decreasing on wrong and right side rows for a bit.

06/29/2018

Decreased to 54 sts and then knit about an inch or so even. Did not bind off front, left stitches on the needle, will do icord bind off.

06/30/2018

Followed instructions to decrease back and decreased to 54 sts to match front. Did an icord bind off across back, about 7 inches stretched for the strap (which was 36 icord rows for me), bound off front, second strap, and then joined.

Used 28g dark blue and 55 grams light blue.
