February 2015 - Here I am a good third of the way through this project with no notes yet! Terrible. Let’s see…
Started this on August 8. Found the pattern on Ravelry and really liked it. Needed the color-change yarn - so I wasn’t going to make it, but I was having an indulgent streak. Bought the yarn at Yarnology. Not sure I really like the color choices - was trying to find the most prismatic color shifts. This is either going to be fantastic or awful!
Had a couple glitches at the beginning and had to restart a few times. Looking at the photos helped translate the written instructions. and helped me figure out which color was going to be dominant and which was the other. Hint - I want the slipped stitches at the inside edge of the selvedge to be the solid color - that’s not all that obvious in the instructions.
Would work on this more often, but have so many knitting commitments that it gets set aside a lot. Also, now that it’s growing, it’s taking longer to work across the rows. Still, I’ve figured out the rhythm of the pattern and know what the checkpoints are to tell when I’ve messed up, so I mess up less now! But I do print out a fresh copy of the main graph page and check of each set of rows as work them. The graph is not that visually helpful as far as seeing where the diagonal lines are heading.
Worried I was running out of yarn - that slowed this project down. That, and every time I put it down, I forgot what my stopping point was. Very hard to figure out from the cryptic charting, even when I made extra copies and ticked off the rows.
December 2018 - Decided I was close enough to the end that I wanted to finish this project before New Year’s Day. Worked on it 12/30 and 12/31. Kept messing up and having to work back and them forward again. Finally got it finished! Washed and blocked on New year’s Day, 2018. Put a blocking wire in the bind off edge - that really wants to curl. Might bring the iron up and hit it all with some steam as well.
The fabric was very dense due to the mosaic technique and yarn carries. When I was swishing it around in the sink, there was a moment when it almost sighed, and just completely relaxed.
Will try to get some decent photos soon. Hard to photograph, since it’s so big.
Total retail price of yarn $90.97.
