Notes

The colour in the photo isn’t quite accurate; the yarn is a semisolid Army green. I tweaked it a bit in PS to get it closer to the actual shade but it’s still not quite right.

2/23/15: Wearing this for the first time. I think if I do this again I will make the neckline a little less wide. It’s not quite falling off my shoulders but it’s close. I’ll pick up some ribbon and snaps to sew in bra strap keeps on my way home tonight.

Notes from Helpful Projects:

  • error in side increases on front; work shaping as for back instead

  • change reverse stockinette sides on front to stockinette (match back again)

Further changes:

  • Adapted armhole shaping from the Shapely Tank to get better straps/armscye.

  • Applied I-cord edging to neckline. Used a 2 (+1) stitch i-cord on US 6 dps

Used 3.12 skeins - 312 g, 468 yards for front and back.

Revisions for armholes/neckline:

Front:

Shape Armhole: Bind off 7 st at beginning of next two rows (81 st; set locking marker) and then 6 st at the beginning of the following two rows (69 st).

Decrease 1 st at each end of every other row 3 times (63 st).

Work evenly for 1 inch, then bind off centre 43 st (ie., k 10, B.O. 43, k 10).

Work each strap even until armholes measure 8.5” from first underarm bind off. Bind off shoulders.

Back:

Bind off armholes as for front and work for 3” from first underarm bind off, then work neck as for front.

NOTE: This results in fewer decreases overall so when I divided for straps, I had 13 sts per strap rather than 10 as for the front. I corrected for this by making a k2tog or ssk on the next 3 right side rows at the neckline edge so the decreases slanted toward the armhole. When I was back down to 10 sts for the strap I worked straight until the strap was long enough.

straps ~ 30 rows

Sleeves: Used the top-down seamless set-in sleeve method. Worked the sleeve caps and then did 2 at a time so they used up the leftover yarn/came out the same length.

ideal finished length ~10 inches along underarm ‘seam’ (i.e., elbow length)

gauge = 4 st x 6 row = 1”

upper arm = 15” therefore 60 st sleeve

60/2 = 30 front and back

markers: 20 st between 2&3 (10 either side of top centre of armscye). 7 st between 1&2 and 3&4 respectively

ribbing: p3 k3 p3 panel at center of sleeve; k1 to front side of marker, k2 to back

11/21/14 back finished
1/7/2015 front finished
washed and blocked before seaming.
1/12/15 i-cord on neckline. tried it on, holy carp it fits and looks good. even husbear likes it.
1/14/15 first sleeve cap …

Cast sleeves off at elbow length (10” long on underarm ‘seam’). I used a sewn stem-stitch bind off, which sorta matches the longtailed cast on, but came out very loose. I may pick it back out and do an i-cord instead.
