I am knitting this blanket as a wedding present for a dear friend of mine. I cast on one week after she announced her engagement and have been knitting constantly on it. I did take about a 3 week break in the middle since I just needed to work on something else to keep sane.
I increased the pattern to do an additional tree repeat width wise and length wise. I want this to be a cozy blanket that the newlyweds can use together curled up on the couch :) Finished measurements: 58” x 71”
I also decided to incorporate a seed stitch border into the body of the work so that I wouldn’t have to go back later and add a border. I added 8 stitches of seed stitch on either side of the blanket. I also worked 10 rows of seed stitch before starting the pattern.
The flower garden pattern in this pattern looked like it might catch too easily, especially as my friends will likely have a dog someday, so I opted to use the Fancy Diamond Pattern from the Harmony Guides Knit & Purl book (page 209) and worked 3 repeats of the diamonds in replacement for the flower garden pattern. This pattern is 1 stitch wider (with my mods) than what the flower garden pattern is so I just increased 1 stitch before I started this motif and decreased 1 stitch when I was done. Easy enough!
To do all of the modifications I explained above, I needed to cast on 240 stitches.
There is errata on the website. It includes a ‘setup row’ for working the dividing pattern. Below is a copy/paste from the website.
