Inspired by a shop sample at Three Bags Full, originally made by owner Francesca and blogged about here http://www.threebagsfull.ca/blog/index.php?id=245. The Koigu is much thinner than the yarn called for in the pattern so the resulting “shawl” is more of a large scarf. I changed the pattern by knitting approx. 144R of garter (until there are 293 stitches on the needle, 146 each side and 1 centre stitch.) and an extra pattern repeat of lace so that I knit 56 rows of lace instead of 48. I used two skeins of the 142109 pink colour, one a bit darker than the other. I ended up mixing this colour into the others for the entire shawl, sometimes mixing three different colourways by alternating yarns, sometimes every 2 rows, sometimes every row. I couldn’t seem to make my colours look good together otherwise. I knit 9 rows of garter stitch for the border and then used a Lucy Neatby suspended cast off. This made a nice round edge for garter stitch but had to be done very loosely. The finished shawl is 236 grams: garter stitch - 109 grams, lace - 112 grams, garter border - 15 grams.
I used:
2 skeins (100 grams) - 142109 - pink, blue, gold, lavender, etc.-to start and running throughout until the end
1 skein(50 grams) - 30895 -wine, pink, chocolate brown
1 skein (50 grams)- 441116-blue green, lavender, coral, pink , etc
18 grams - 20481 - a brighter version of the beginnning colour
15 grams - Indigo Moon midnight blue - to finish off in the 9 rows of garter stitch and cast off.
