These tiny mittens are just a pared-down version of a regular mitten using traditional construction, including a thumb gusset! Adorable, these little mittens are a bit fiddly, but a relaxing & quick knit once you get underway. I’ve knit several pairs using twisted cord to connect them together.

In Michelle Edwards endearing story “A Quickening of the Heart” found in A Knitter’s Home Companion, she writes about spotting a tiny handknit sock hanging over the rearview mirror in the car parked next to her. Having relocated & getting established in a new area, she was without a knitting group and desperate to find other knitters. She wrote her name & number on a ballband and tucked it under the car’s windshield wiper, and later was invited to join a knitting group. Such a powerful and touching story!

I’m thankful today that it’s a different story for us Ravelers. I have hung a pair of miniature mittens I’ve made over my rearview mirror and have given several to friends of mine who are knitters to remind us of just how fortunate we really are to have Ravelry, making it so easy, just a few clicks away from a worldwide community of knitters and crocheters!
