Test knitting the yarn for Carle
tutorial for cast-on
I learnt so much doing this pattern. Starting from the cast-on, right to the Bind-off- most of it was new to me. This was the first time I used lace weight yarn and the first proper lace project.
The pattern is really great. Found the charts very easy to follow and very well explained.
It was a smooth knit- except for the last lace chart, where I managed to drop a stitch- which was unnoticed for two rows… by then it had unraveled so far that I had to back-knit more than 15rows (so very disheartening!!)! Had to put the knit away for a few weeks, then i just re-did the edge lace again.
The lesson I learnt from this experience: LIFELINES!!!, I am not experienced enough to rescue my lace knitting with a crochet hook (yet?) and not to chuck my knitting carlessly into my handbag. (i got a project bag that fits into my handbag as a result :))
The YARN: Is super light weight. The whole Shawl weighs 42g! it is truly like a breeze on ones shoulders. It is delicate yet strong, no worries of the yarn snapping. But (and i guess that this is normal) I had to be careful that the yarn didnt get tangled up, due to its weight, it is nearly impossible to untangle any knots.
After blocking it got a wonderful sheen and beautiful drape. Being tussah silk it doesnt shine as much as “normal” silk. It also is not as slippery as other silks. I really like both of these qualities of the yarn.
I am already planning to use the yarn again.
Definitely the perfect knit for summer!
