I ditched the hat pattern and made my own incorporating DC rounds instead of sc…
Fear is a path to the Dark Side. Fear leads to anger…anger leads to hate…hate leads to suffering…

When I mention I am starting a new crochet project, my children feel fear…When I ask them to wear what I make they usually get angry…When they get angry they sometimes say they hate me….Then I suffer. Wise, Yoda is, for even a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away-correct the dude is.

I also used BPDC for the ridges (using different combos of increases and decreases I got a nice bumpy part in the front that I could then whip stitch into even greater detailed ridges)…I followed the directions for the rest of it and it all worked well together. My hat directions are as follows:

  1. Magic ring, ch 2 (counds as dc for remainder of hat), 11 dc in ring; join
  2. Ch 2, 2dc in each dc around (24 dc)
  3. Ch 2, %2dc in next dc, dc in next dc, dc in next dc, dc in next dc, 2dc in next dc%, BPDC around next dc, 2dc in next dc, dc in next dc, (dc, BPDC) in next dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc (dc, BPDC) in next dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, (BPDC, dc) in next dc, dc in next dc, repeat from %-%; join (36 dc)
  4. You will notice that your hat has started to come together in this little area. You will put the top of the hat facing your belly-put the two edges together so the edges have 3 stitches higher on the right side and sl st them together(see photo) Now you will stop using the left side and sl st to the top of the right side (see photo) Now you can place a dc in the center of the ridges and dc in remaining 26 dc; join
  16. Dc in each dc around, finish off (You can repeat round 16 if you need your hat longer

Now you will notice that the ridges are really puffy-you can pull extra fabric in to each ridge to make the wrinkles more pronounced. Just be careful to not pull too much so that the hat doesn’t become misshapen.

I did the eyes a bit different too-first round in Black, second in white and the next three white-finish off.
