Notes

10/31. The sleeves do not lend themselves well to two-at-once knitting, as the middle stitches move from one side to the other frequently. I’m going to try it anyway, with a few extra cable needles, so wish me luck. Goal for NaKniSweMo is to finished the sleeves!

11/07. Halfway through the arm increases and it’s looking good! I tried rearranging things so the center cable panel was all on one needle but the increases kept making things wonky so I went back. It’s all going much faster as I get more familiar with the cable pattern. I think a slip stitch instead of a ktbl every other row on either side of the small cable pattern would look better, but it’s way too late to go back now. Nearly through with the first 2 balls of yarn (one per sleeve).

11/23 So I’m beginning to think I have freakishly long monkey arms. I’ve reached the point in the pattern where I’m supposed to bind off the underarm and start shaping the sleeve cap, but I think I need about 2 more inches of length to make the sleeves come down to my wrists. This would also solve the stitch count error, as I’d be adding 4 more sts as well. Yes, there is an error in the pattern! A few, actually. KP says they’re on it. We’ll see.

11/30 Finished the arms just in time for the NaKniSweMo deadline! Woo! I wound up adding 1” to the arms and muddled my way through the armhole bind off error. Looking ahead to the body, I’m probably going to modify the increases and decreases to make them less noticeable. I really hate the look of kfb/pfb. Yarn use thus far: two full balls for each sleeve plus a bit of a third each for the last 2-4”. Will weigh them later.

10/24/2015 Put this pattern into hibernation for several months and am whipping it out again. All this cabling is driving me nuts!

11/05/15 Holy crap, I am making good progress! My goal for this year’s NaKniSweMo was to get through the body decreases and I’M ALREADY THERE. Now that I’m starting the increases things will probably slow down a bit, but it’s actually starting to look like a sweater instead of a little ring of nonsense on my needles. I may actually finish this baby before the new year. I’m going to keep it as my sole project through November, and then I have a bit of Christmas knitting that can’t wait longer than that.

Final Word

Finished this sweater last week and, despite the errors and the sheer insanity of knitting this many cables, I’m quite please with how it turned out.

As far as I know, KP has fixed every problem in the pattern but one: There is an issue at row 128 in the body cable chart. The first part of the main cable pattern is a stitch that doesn’t exist. Instead of increasing at row 128, do the increase at row 127 and make the first 4 stitches of the main cable pattern in row 128 “c2 over 2 right P” and the last 4 “c2 over 2 left P”. (Thanks to LyssVicious for finding that and offering a fix!)
