Notes

I’ve uploaded my charts as project photos so please feel free to use them! Ravelry compresses image files when you upload them, so if those project images come out blurry for you, I’ve also uploaded them as an album here: http://imgur.com/a/MAPYV Unlike a traditional double-knitting chart, where each square represents two stitches, each square on these charts represents a single stitch. Just work ‘em as you see ‘em! I used the same cast-on, edge technique, and bind-off as the original pattern. Please comment or PM if you have any questions!

9/04
I’m modifying this pattern so that the text is readable from either side - that is, not mirrored the way it is in traditional double knitting. I spent a few hours today reworking the chart and it’s definitely hurting my brain! Hopefully I’ll have that done by the time the yarn actually arrives!

9/06
Did a test knit of part of the pattern to make sure it reads correctly. It does! Following the modded chart was actually easier for me than regular double knitting, since each stitch was written out individually. Making the chart was a pain in the ass, even after figuring out a shortcut, but it will definitely be worth it!

9/11
FINALLY MY GODDAMN YARN IS HERE!!! Never ordering from Royal Yarns again. That shit took forever! Now to start knitting.

9/12
35 rows into the chart and it’s almost starting to actually look like something! No one would really notice yet that the pattern isn’t reversed on the “back” side but it should be more obvious (and impressive) once I reach the text. Only 470 rows to go!

10/02
About 110 rows done now and it looks like I’m going to be a little short of yarn with just the 4 balls I have. Grrrrrrr. Just about to start the N in “Winter,” which is where the non-reversed design will start to become apparent.

10/16
This scarf got put on the back burner for a couple weeks while I worked in another project, but I’ve made good progress since picking it back up! 170 rows done. If I can average 10 rows a day I’ll have it done before Thanksgiving!

10/24
Just about halfway through the chart, and just slightly over halfway through the yarn. The first balls of each color ran out just before row 250 (of 505), so I guess I’ll have to order more and pray for close dye lots. Seems lame to buy full balls when I just need enough for maybe 10 rows :( Maybe I’ll make a matching hat.

01/17
After some seriously crappy delays in getting more yarn, the scarf is finally finished! I wound up needing absolutely NONE of the 3rd ball of white and only a few yards of the 3rd ball of gray, so I’m pretty sure one of the first gray balls was light by a few grams. Weigh your yarn before you start or get on ball more of each color than you think you’ll need.

Anyway, Hubby loves his scarf so all is well.
