Notes

3-9-14: I love this pattern! If you are knitting in Mecha and knit tightly, I wouldn’t make the modification I did below -- stick with more like 18 or the original 20 stitches for repeats. The Norwegian Long Tail cast on was definitely the right stretchy cast on for this. If I were doing it again, I might use one of the stretchy cast offs -- I just did a regular cast off, and it’s fine for my purposes but definitely greater circumference than the cast on.

I did four repeats and then ended after a row 7 to switch to ribbing (and the smaller needles.

Start up:

12 rows of ribbing on 8’s, then changed to 10’s.

Taking Advantage of Suggestions from Some Other Knitters:

Old Norwegian cast on

CO 96, 16 stitches instead of 20 for pattern repeats - Mecha is thicker than worsted

Combine set up and row 1 (avoids stockinette)

KFB instead of m1 to keep it simple

End cable on a knit row (7 or 9) before starting ribbing to keep top and bottom congruent

Need even number of stitches between markers before end ribbing, so cable ribs line up

Sewn bind off

Several people suggest going a bit short -- would make it 8-10 cm shorter. 5 pattern repeats plus 2 rows

One knitter suggests the following mods: began ribbing, did a KFB at the beginning of each pattern so that ribbing of cable would line up. Did C8F on 3rd round of ribbing
