How I’ve been improvising the border:
Pick up stitches with RS facing an K all st on first RS row. KFB all WS first and last stitches, with moss stitch in between. Complete 10 moss stitch rows. BO purlwise on the 11th row (will be WS). Seam mitered corners together once done.
My friend is due in November, so I’m giving myself plenty of time to make this for her. She loves quilting and I have yet to master that, so this seems like the best of both our worlds.
I ordered this yarn online and having now received it I’m not 100% happy with the color combination because the natural color is more yellow that I thought it would be. She will be getting plenty of pink and lavender from others, so I’m using a dark blueish-purple for the border and a natural off-white for the body of the blanket. Update: bought four balls of this in “lichen” for the border. I’ll save the blue-purple for something else. Green is her favorite color anyways.
I’m getting exactly four small squares per ball, with a little left over for seaming. If I ever make this again, I will knit them in the round like jk-knits. The seams are so much cleaner that way. Also, this yarn has way too much body… the eyelets aren’t nearly as noticeable as other people’s projects. :(
Update: Fricka fracka! I just realized I’ve been winding the yarn in the wrong direction for the YO and that’s why the eyelets aren’t as noticeable!!!! I’m already halfway done so I’m just going to have to complete it in the same way. $&#^@%!!!!
I’m knitting this in single instead of the suggested double because she lives in a warm climate. I don’t think it will ever be cool enough to use for her!
I got a little bored and have done four other projects in the meantime. Time to get back into this one! I’m aiming for one square a day, which doesn’t take much time to make… I just get bored of doing it.
Two edges of the green border in moss stitch finished, working on the third. It’s beginning to all pull together and look awesome, if I do say so myself. Due to my complete lack of patience, the longer I take on a project the less I like the look of it, but I’m getting my love for this back now that I’m in the home stretch! I’m thinking I will back it with fabric once blocked to make it look a bit neater, but that may not look good with all the eyelets. We will see.
