CO 54 sts with 3.5 mm needles.
1x1 rib 3 rows
row 8 of pattern, taking out 1 sts to have a purl st at each end of the pattern, and perfect ribbing.
-> 53 sts

At 1 1/2 pattern repeat:
include a 9 sts temporary yarn on 4th row of second repeat. (4 sts rib, 5 sts lace pattern)

At 4 pattern repeat total:
Switch to smaller needles.
Knit 4 pattern repeats.
Switch back to larger needles.
Knit 6 repeats.
Knit 3 rows in 1x1 ribs (increasing one stitch on the first row to get back to 54 sts)
