Cast on this project before I noticed there was now an Elder Tree Shawl pattern (a symmetrical Lonely Tree Shawl). I knit most of this shawl on Christmas Day, probably spent about 9 or 10 hours at my best friend’s house working on this. It was a lovely Christmas.

Thanks to the examples provided by westlinwind and Bricken, I combined the Lonely Tree Shawl pattern with the Kevät-shawl pattern. Basically, I knit the shawl using the pattern from the Kevät-shawl but added the side and middle garter borders of the Lonely Tree Shawl.

I also knit the garter ridges at the end, although I only had enough yarn for 5 rows (instead of the total 8 in the pattern) and then had to bind off with the picot edging. I think it still looks really great! I shouldn’t have done 12 repeats and should have ended on the 11th. I had only exactly the right amount of yarn and was left with only a few inches of a tail to weave in after the last picot was bound off! A little too close for comfort there…

This is the first time I knit and completed something of this size. This is also my first shawl and the first time I really blocked something. Very proud of myself for having accomplished so many firsts!

If I did this shawl again, I would go up a needle size. I knit these on 5.0 mm needles but I agree with westlinwind that it would probably be a bit better to knit on 5.5mm or even 6mm needles.

Final wing span after blocking is 139 cm by 64 cm.
