Incoming Nightwing cosplay based on the infamous (and very much loved) Discowing era of Dick’s fashion choices. I’m working it up in worsted acrylic because I’m pushing hard on deadline. It’s going to be a full-skirt, 1950s inspired dress (see shot with reference photos), so I need to be able to work as fast as possible without putting together something that’s going to overheat me.
Bodice - Color changes are not something I’m great at, but no time to practice like the present. I figure once it’s done and I take photos from an actual distance, the bits of light blue peeking around the edges will be less obvious. It feels like that’s going to be one of those details that bugs me but that no one else will notice. We’ll see.
Bodice, part 2 - I got the straps on, and then I worked around the straps and the top of the bodice to form the large collar. I did six rows in light blue, then six rows in yellow. On the yellow rows, I did a dc, ch, dc in each center corner stitch at the bottom edge to put a little more shape on the edge. For now, no sleeves are gonna be attached, but that might change.
Skirt -- so much skirt. So very much. It started with the additional light blue at the waist, where the increases started, and then I did increases every row until things got flippy, and then I just worked down without anymore increases to get the sort of cupcake poof you see in the final picture. The bow was added last, both to bring in that last bit of color to really even out the look and also to mimic the final design element on the torso of the original costume.
