Yay! My first indie-dyed garment.
Swatch
Aiming for: 24s x 30r
Pre-wash: 27s x 32r on 3.5mm Knit Pro Symfonie circular (but I knit the swatch back and forth rather than in the round)
Post-wash: 25s x 32r
I think my gauge is close enough (famous last words?) but I’ll re-measure as I go. I’m going for the M size which is too large (but S is too small), so having a slightly tighter gauge should make the M a better fit.
To help calculate yardage
Before I cast on, my balls of yarn weigh…
Ball 1 of MC = 104g
Ball 2 of MC = 106g
Ball 3 of MC = 108g
Ball 1 of CC = 110g
21 May - Going well and fitting nicely. Switching to Ball 2 of MC after the waist decreases so that I can use some of Ball 1 at the top of the sleeves.
28 May - The body stripes are complete (still the MC section to go). I used around 70g of the CC yarn for the body stripes so it looks like I’ll have plenty leftover even after the sleeves.
5 June - Body complete and I’ve used around 170g of the MC.
15 June - Knitting on the second sleeve and realising I’m going to run out of yarn so I have to cake up the third skein and break in to that (probably wouldn’t have needed to if I hadn’t swatched.. hehe).
Final weight of the pullover: 306g
(though based on leftover yarn weights, I seem to have used: MC = 214g and CC = 97g)
Final thoughts
The pattern was well written and this was an enjoyable knit.
When I knit it again, I will follow the suggestions from other knitters to skip some of the increases to avoid the “lump” I’ve got on the long side.
I’m definitely using Miss Click Clack’s Merri Creek Sock yarn again for a garment, it was amazing to work with and feels great on skin.
