Notes

I double knit this so it’s reversible (I only made one. The pictures that show two wash cloths side by side are actually two separate photographs photoshopped together in order to show both the front and back of the wash cloth side by side.)

This is the first thing I’ve ever double knitted. It was super fun, but it did end up being a lot bigger than I thought it would be. It’s really too big (and too pretty) to be a wash cloth. I might use it as a wall hanging or I might knit up some more double knit pieces, sew them all together, and make a reversible bag. I haven’t decided yet.

Here are some hopefully helpful details about making it:

  • I duplicate stitched the word Totoro on each side because I realized that if I double knit it, the word would be backwards on one of the sides.
  • I used a long tail cast on and alternated the colors which gave the cast on edge a very pretty braided look. To make the bind off edge look the same, I did a decrease bind off alternating the colors again. It looks similar to the cast on but not exactly the same.
  • To get the sides to look nice and neat, I slipped the very first stitch of every row knit wise and purled the very last stitch using both the white and blue yarn.
