toe-up socks to show off some of my favoritest yarn, some fingering weight spincycle yarn i bought at renegade san francisco last year. i’m knitting the toe and heel with leftover dream in color smooshy to maximize the handspun.
5/27- still working on a name. started on monday, heel turned tuesday. now wednesday, and i’m slowly working my way up the leg.
notes and deets for sock 2: cast on 12, increased to 64, but turns out my swatch lied to me, so i tore back to 56. turned heel appropriately (short row heel), 12 sts between yo’s. row after heel is turned, two purl sts at the back. i’m thinking… picot border? we’ll see.
5/29- my grandpa got bit by a brown recluse spider and was in the hospital for a couple of days. he’s doing way better now (whew!), but i really sped through knitting this sock. the trauma of an ill grandparent aside, this handspun was a joy to knit with. i did a picot border, but bound off just a little too tight (used a size 3 to bind off to hopefully avoid that). so my options now are as follows:
a) tear back and bind off with a 4 or 5.
b) tear back and try a sewn bind off with the possibility of having to put some elastic in there to help the sock stay up?
5/30- tore back and bound off with a size 5. it’s perfect. this sock is perfect. oh wow. i can’t wait for the next one. i don’t know if i’ll ever want to take these off.
current name options:
-here there be dragons
-brown recluse spider
-the ground beneath my feet
let me know if you have a preference.
6/7- started sock two a couple days ago. now all i have to do is bind off, sew in ends and block!
6/8- bound off, tried on, sewn in ends, soaked, and currently blocking!
6/9- had access to a better camera than usual… that, plus my shocking lack of warm earth tone bottoms led to me wearing a $20 rummage sale dress i picked up quite a few years ago when i actually thought i might attend prom. i didn’t, but the dress was worn by a cousin to prom, and a friend as a bridesmaid. so it’s gotten $20 worth of wear. it hangs out in the back of my closet, mostly…
