This is my first project for Alice’s Embrace.
My dear friend, Diane Lewis has created Alice’s Embrace in honor of her mother, Alice, and her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. I never met Alice but feel like I know her through the love of her daughter, Diane.
Alice’s Embrace has partnered with The Eskaton Foundation of Northern California to provide their memory care residents with a lap blanket or prayer shawl. Diane knows first hand how these hand-made items can help ease the anxiety that is often present in those suffering from this disease.
Alice’s Embrace is distributing the finished projects with a hand-sewn Alice’s Embrace label that Diane designed. Finished projects can be dropped off or mailed to the partnering yarn shops.
Please visit Alice’s Embrace to read more details.

August 2015: I have finally finished this lap blanket. This charity is near and dear to my heart so I feel bad that I could not get this project off the needles faster. It’s just that ever since I had hand surgery (2 ganglion cysts removed) it is hard for me to knit with bigger needles. Hence I did not knit this lap blanket as fast as I wish I could have.
My hope is that this pretty pink lap blanket brings someone suffering from Alzheimer’s comfort and joy!
Update August 28, 2015: My friend Diane and her sisters made a delivery to a Sacramento care home and my pretty pink lap blanket was given to Nahid. I hope it brings her comfort & joy!
Please have a look at my friend Diane’s Alice’s Embrace Facebook page. She takes photos of each delivery and the photos are just heartwarming!
