Started this shawl in the car on the drive home for Christmas. Using the Tanis Plum for the main color, and the Tosh Tern for the contrasting color.

Picked this up again recently. I put it away because I messed up somewhere and dropped a stitch or missed an increase (more likely, since the stitch pattern still looks fine). Made up for it with a kfb on one edge. Now I’m at about 12-13” deep, so not much more of the pattern left, then onto the border.

After getting the striped section to the correct pattern depth, I decided to make it larger to use up more yarn. I also prefer larger shawls, so I knew I would get more use out of it if it was extra big. I probably had enough Tanis to do one more stripe, but I would have run out of the Tosh Tern for sure.

Dimensions before blocking:
62” from tip to tip, 21” deep (19” in pattern, 2” border).

Dimensions after (aggressive) blocking:
74” from tip to tip, 31” deep (26.5” in pattern, 4.5” border).

Yarn Notes

This was my first time knitting with a Tanis yarn, and I have to say I absolutely loved it. It is so vibrant and has a great sheen to it. It’s tightly plied and knit so smoothly.

The Tosh DK Tern on the other hand was not a good skein. It was not consistent with their usual yarns. It was loosely plied, was constantly splitting, and had a few knots in it. The Tosh Charcoal also stained my needles and my hands during knitting.
