Pattern notes: I used 2.00 mm and 2.25 mm needles. 2.00 for the ribbing on the pants and the suspenders, and the button band and facing on the sweater. I did get gauge with the lace weight yarn. I think it fits pretty true to size, as I knit the 6 month outfit and that’s the size Mac is wearing. I put ribbing across the back; mods for that are below. I also had to fudge in a few places, because the patterns did not line up: at the underarm of the sleeve, when you joined the sleeve to the body, and when the lace pattern started. Because of the decreases, I had to figure out how to make the lace pattern centered around the front; I think I had to add a stitch to make full diamonds, plus 1 st, at either side of centre.
Oct 25, 2014 - Done, done, done, done, done!!! I have been working on this for way too long. Way too long. Still, it’s gorgeous. My lil sister is taking pictures of Mac in it tomorrow. I am so glad it’s done.
Oct 16, 2014 - I did NOT get the sweater done for blessing day. Mac looked fantastic in just the jumper (pictures to come), but I was sad, still. I am plugging away, and now almost done. I will take pretend blessing day pictures with the whole outfit this Sunday when we are all gussied up. Oh how I want to move onto other knitting!
Oct 6, 2014 - Finished the body and onto the sleeves. I hate bottom up construction, for some reason, but I’m going to keep on going. If I can get one sleeve done today, and the other tomorrow, I think I may get the whole thing finished on time. (PS The pattern on the sleeves does not line up at the underarm and it totally annoys me, but I don’t have time to work out how to make it perfect.)
Sept 29, 2014 - The pants are done, so I’m starting on the sweater. It may not be done by blessing day, but I’m going to try my darndest!
MODS: I added 2x2 ribbing at the back (the centre 42 sts), after the first row of eyelets and to the garter stitch at the top. This left me with 9 repeats of the lace pattern. It just draws the top in a bit around the chest. When I got to the garter border, I decreased across the ribbing so that it wouldn’t splay by k2tog every k2 of the ribbing.
Sept 24, 2014 - This is the project that NEVER ends! The endless stockinette nearly did me in. I am, however, finally done the body. I just have to knit the suspenders and block. I’m not sure if I’m going to get the sweater done or not for blessing day.
Sept 11, 2014: I’m 21 rows past the decreases at the crotch. That would be 23784 sts made, if you wanted to know.
August 22, 2014: Okay, I’m finally getting started. I tried knitting it with magic loop using the needles I bought from knitpicks just for this, but couldn’t avoid ladders. So, I ran out to the LYS in desperation and bought some DPNs, and it’s looking much better. Hopefully once I get past the ribbing and add all the stitches for the leg I’ll be able to do magic loop, as it’s so much faster, but I bought DPNs in the bigger size as well, just in case.
June 2014: I’m just waiting for the yarn to arrive from Mr. Yarn, and I can’t wait to get started. Except for the fact that the last (and only) lace weight project I knit I hated because it took so long… But this suit is just too perfect to not knit it.
I will knit the jumper in the Antler and the sweater in the Mica. And, hopefully I’ll have enough left over of each to knit a shawl/blanket to match.
