I absolutely love my February Lady Sweater. LOVE. I’m already planning my second one. And one for Lexie. And maybe one for Mom--she admired it too.
Four modifications:
1) I added a button. That was partly because I knit further than I needed to before splitting out the sleeves, but mostly because I did want the sweater to button further.
2) I did stockinette stitch on the yoke, instead of garter. I don’t need any extra bulk up there! :-) And I liked the look of the stockinette better, especially with how I ended up with a defined garter stitch “collar.”
3) I knit the sweater longer than the pattern calls for, because otherwise it would have hit me at an unattractive length.
4) I started the lace later, to keep the line from hitting me right across the bust. This was actually a result of knitting too long before splitting out the sleeve stitches, but I’d’ve wanted the lace to start later anyway.
Two notes for my next go:
1) I may want to go down a size, or leave out/reduce the number of yarn overs. The sweater fits just a bit looser than I need, although I do like the fit.
2) I don’t need to knit nearly as far before splitting out the stitches for the sleeves. I didn’t fully understand the instruction about knitting until just before the stitches meet under my arms; I should have taken closer looks at some of the finished project photos and seen where the lace started on those sleeves. As a result, I’ve got extra fabric that bunches up a bit under my arms.
Even with those things to learn from, I love this sweater. Have I said that yet?
The buttons were a custom order from this etsy shop. He had a similar pair that were smaller than I needed, but I was easily able to place a custom order for a reasonable price. I recommend this shop for anyone else looking for pewter buttons. (NAYY)
