For this project I was highly influenced by the beautiful felted bowls by Molly Conroy, as well as many other felted bowls on Ravelry.
This came out to be a wonderful project bowl for my 2-at-a-time socks (I always have a pair of socks on the go).
Here is what I did -
Provisional CO 20 stitches over the cable from interchangeable needle set.
Knit 40 rows of garter, 20 ridges. Picked up 20 stitches on each side, plus the 20 stitches from the provisional cast on - 80 stitches total. Markers every 20 stitches.
Increase every second round 2 times, then the 3rd round three times. M1L and M1R increases one stitch before and after the markers. Increased to 30 stitches each side. After 2 rows I then decreased for 2 rounds - first on both sides of the markers and then at 1/3 and 2/3 of the sides (left and right directional decreases).
Knit for about 10 rounds (1.5”-2”) and started decreases. Decreased both sides of the markers (left leaning and right leaning) every second round 3 times and then after 3 rounds, until 16 stitches on each side. Knit 5 rounds straight. Started garter band. I decided to split the top into 2 sections - at the midpoints of the sides. I wanted two openings to use this as a yarn bowl for 2-at-time socks.
Bound off with an I cord bind-off (cast on 3 stitches, * K2 then K2Tog, slide the three stitches back on the left needle * - repeat to the end. Bind off the last 3 stitches at the end of the I cord in the usual way).
Before felting the base was almost 6” square, the sides were 9” and each side at the top was 9”.
