The pattern is from the Craftsy class - New Directions in Lace - This pattern is the True Lace Hat. It was interesting to knit because every row was a working row (true lace).
I used Dk weight yarn and so made some modifications -
- smaller needles
- added a repeat, so cast on 99 stitches and then after the first pattern row I had 110 stitches (11 repeats)
- knit the first chart twice, to add length to the hat, then rows 2-8 and second chart, like the pattern
Another modification I made was to start with a provisional cast on and knit the ribbing twice as wide. I then joined the live stitches of the cast on with the stitches from the end of the ribbing for the first row of the chart (knit 2 stitches together). Just because I like a thicker edge on a hat. Also the provisional cast on seems stretchier than a regular cast on which is nice for a hat.
This yarn was the March TFA Year in Colour Club yarn. I originally made the hat pattern that came with the yarn, but it was too small and I didn’t think I could modify the pattern appropriately to work for me. I couldn’t let this beautiful yarn go to waste.
I am really pleased with how this hat came out. It is a perfect lightweight hat. Because I increased the length it can be worn a bit slouchy or pulled down.
