I started the top of the hat in my own pattern, after having measured my son’s head and figuring out gauge. I got to the part where I decided ultimately that I wanted his ears covered and used the short row instructions to shape the area where his face poked out.

When I reach just below his chin, I’ll be beginning to increase and finish the circle of his face, then connect and knit in the round so the headpiece covers his neck, too.

My afterthought additions will be an i-cord edging around the face so it looks like Mike’s lips, an eyeball on the head with an eyelid, and two little horns atop his head with i-cord base.

Finally, if I have time, I’ll add teeth so it looks like Mike is nomming his head.

Note - I think I’ll add teeth to it so it looks like it’s nomming on his head. Going to get some other projects out of the way, first, though.
