So, I have the attention span of a goldfish when it comes to crochet projects. Luckily for me, a good number of my girlfriends actually knit or crochet. I forget where the epiphany came from, but I convinced them that we should start a Round Robin style square trading club to make ourselves each a quilt. I pitched this idea while fairly sloshed, but to my surprise they’re all on board! One gal is even learning how to knit for the first time. We’ve decided to stick to even-inch sized squares (4, 6, 8, 10) to get some variation. We have 3 knitters and 3 crocheters. Another cool part of this is that after one of us finishes a set of 6 squares, she can pass off her unused yarn to someone of the opposite team for another set of 6. Works like a charm! Aside from that we have NO theme whatsoever, but after seeing some of the Blankets of Doom here, I have decided that some of said squares MUST be incorporated. We’re all children of the 80s after all :D
According to A,
for a queen sized blanket, to go one foot over on each side and a foot over on the end of the bed, at 4” squares, we’d need 2016 squares. That’s 21 squares across, and 24 squares down…measuring out to be 84” x 96”
Luckily, she had been working on her own Granny Square blanket, and decided to give up on that and donate the squares she’d already made to this project instead. So we’ve got a good start at least!
