My cousin, Mindy is fighting breast cancer, and recently had to have all her beautiful long blond hair cut off in preparation for chemo therapy. She’s having a hard time dealing with it, so I offered to make her a hat. I’m really happy to have found this extremely soft yarn which I love, love, love. It has the greatest drape, and a fantastic color palette:

My hat is off to whoever designed this color palette. It’s seldom that designers have the sense to create different monochromatic shades of the same hues. This greatly enhances our ability to create interesting designs using the same yarn. That being said, these two colors are supposedly being discontinued. I just hope there are similar shades waiting to take their place.
I did a German twisted cast-on over TWO size 4 knitting needles (to make the cast-on loose and stretchy). Then I did all the ribbing with size 7 needles. The remainder of the hat was done with size 8 needles.
I think there may be enough yarn left for another hat or perhaps a small scarf of some kind. This Turkish yarn is 75% Microdenier Acrylic and 25% Merino Wool. The slight sheen makes it look like it contains silk. Very luxurious, soft and drapey. I’ll definitely be using it again.
Last Sunday, Denny and I drove to Napa for a baseball game. Denny plays with the San Jose Oldtimers from time to time. It was a long drive - 1.5 hours each way. I managed to completely finish the hat during the long drive and 9 innings. Yes, I did watch the game and even videotaped some of it.
