Everything was fine with this project once I had figured out the rest of the pattern sequence with the help of fellow Ravelers. As long as you keep in mind that you continue the increase sequence as established in the written portion of the pattern despite the color changes, all will fall into place.
As some did, I will use M1R and M1L mirror increases the next time around, that is if I’m crazy enough to embark again in such a venture. And I’m that crazy (the yarn is already bought)!
;-)
I’m not sure about changing the double decreases to K2tog and SSK though. They look fine to me like that.
I used a somewhat thinner black yarn. It doesn’t show in the color sequences of the blanket, it helped keeping the cast-off loose, and it was a great help when I crocheted the chains for the spokes of the web. I used a 4.5mm/#7 hook for this because some spaces were quite tight.
This knitting marathon within a month (my personal best) was in part due to converting to Irish Cottage Knitting, which notably sped my knitting production. And I guess a good dose of motherly love too!
yield:
284g worsted blue
312g worsted red (but I had a lot of joins so I used up more)
117g worsted black (a little more than specified)
for a pound and a half of snuggly blankie love
tools: 8” dpn’s, 29” Boye circular, 36” Addi circular and 60” bamboo circular
substitutions:
Novita = 150g/300m (as recommended)
needed for project: 300g/blue & red + 100g/black
Bernat Super Value = 197g/407m
needed for project 2 red / 2 blue / 1 black
Phentex Worsted = 300g/532m
Phentex Merit = 50g/113m
needed for project 1 red / 1 blue / 3 black with leftovers
8/01/2011: Showcased to my bf’s son even if all the ends are not yet woven in. He’s quite happy! Yeah! Mission accomplished!
7/01/11: Spokes all crocheted and 30 red ends weaved. 58 more to go. Yes, 58. Darn mishap red skein added 30 ends to the lot.
6/01/11: This is my biggest project ever; a monster blankie, shy of one inch to be 5 feet in diameter.
5/01/11: Now crocheting the spokes with a 4.5mm crochet hook. Knit stitch on an increase row is quite loose, but the one on the knit row is quite tight, making it difficult to do an even job.
4/01/11: Completed the cast-off in 1h30! I’m elated. I used a 6mm dpn to make sure it would be loose enough. I had to use two skeins of black because I don’t think I could have done it with a single 50g one and I definitely didn’t want to find out the hard way.
13/12/10: Working with a bad batch of red. Joins everywhere due to faults in the spinning and breaks in the thread.
:(
I hope this won’t show too much in the finished project. Note to self: do not skimp and buy another skein next time. This was a knitting joins hell.
notes:
54g leftover black after cast-off - last 6 rounds done with 2 skeins alternatively
spokes: approx. 2g/yarn per spoke
1/3 = 14g
2/3 = 11g
3/3 = 29g
