Notes

Padjapüür means “pillowcase” in Estonian. I saw a knitted object in Vero Moda store and first took it for a knitted pillowcase! However, it was not a pillowcase but a kind of bolero. A simple, but intelligent construction: you knit a rectangle and then fold it and seam the sides, leaving holes for the arms. So I decided to knit something similar. Why pay 300 EEK?
The Vero Moda thing was made of some stretchy yarn. I started looking for a suitable yarn, first thinking about rayon blends etc. Then I thought that stretchiness is not the main quality here; rather the thing should fall and drape nicely. This means that yarn suitable for shawls would be good. So I bought Aade Lõng Artistic (aka Kauni Effekt), which is very nice for shawls.
The original was some combination of knits and purls. Of course, the result was nice but the idea of knitting kilometers of knits and purls was not attractive. So I improvised a kind of pattern.
I will write up the pattern. Used up 200 g. One can try a variety of yarns, stitch combinations etc.
Update 17 June 2009 The pattern is coming. It is currently being test-knitted.
