Such a cute, quick, and simple pattern!
This hat measures a bit over 12” around and will probably be too big for little Clarke, born a few weeks early. Better to let him grow into it!

Adjustments/Clarifications:

As others who have made this hat suggested, the gauge is a bit funky and the hat is quite large for a newborn. I took the advice of others and eliminated round 5 (resulting in 48 st around rather than 60), as well as going down in hook size.

I used two colors instead of three, and as such I was able to carry the yarn on the inside of the hat rather than fastening off each row. This requires an extra slip stitch at the beginning of each shell row, so that you’re starting in the middle of the shell of the previous row.
